Sam is currently watching The Clone Wars. He has no problem having a conversation during it, and I only just realized that it’s because he knows he’s going to watch it several dozen times, so why worry about missing a bit this time round.

Interruptions
Monday, January 2nd, 2012Tudors
Monday, September 19th, 2011Sam just brought in a book about the Tudors, asking if he could take it to school as they’re studying that period. I agreed, but was thinking that it was an odd thing to do, and that the teacher would presumably have to feign interest. And then I immediately remembered doing exactly the same sort of thing when I was his age, and how pleasing it was to be able to do it.
An Education
Wednesday, May 11th, 2011Claire is going to a preview of a lesson that Lauren’s going to be doing soon at school. The subject matter is, um, birds and bees. And shagging. I’m pretty sure I know who out of Lauren and her parents is the most mentally prepared for this.
In The Mix
Sunday, May 8th, 2011I’m trying to put together a backing track for Lauren to use in a dance display at school. I’m struggling to make it sound right. I like to think that’s because I’m trying to mix together “Oopsy Daisy”, “Tik Tok” and “I’m a Believer” (yes, the Monkees one) at points dictated by the needs of the dance, rather than musically cogent ones. “What musically cogent points?” I hear you cry. “Exactly”, I cry back.
Homework
Monday, April 4th, 2011It appears Lauren has inherited her dedication to homework from me. She’s on a week without computers because of ‘forgetting’ to do a bunch of stuff, and then yesterday (Sunday) she was working on something that had to be done for sometime this week, without bothering with the thing that had to be done for today. I’ve always stressed when they get good reports that my primary concern is about effort; they got to be smart for free, but making an effort is a decision. I shall try to make the point more clearly in the future.
